Sun Showers
2017
This composition is a musical depiction of a sun shower, which is a common natural phenomenon in tropical countries like the Philippines. This is an occurrence where rain pours down while the sun is not obstructed by clouds. It has been said by folk stories that whenever a sun shower occurs, mythical creatures called tikbalangs (half-human and half-horse) are getting married. Philippine traditional instruments banduria and octavina are featured in this piece. These instruments are usually a part of a plucked string ensemble called rondalla.
