Biography

Born in Seoul, 1995, Sunghyun Lee is currently studying composition at the Seoul National University with Unsuk Chin and Uzong Choe. He has won some distinctions, including 1st Prize at the Korea Journal of Music Competition, 2nd Prize at the Estonian National Academy of Music Competition, 1st Prize at the Music Association of Korea Competition, 1st Prize at the Joong-Ang Music Competition and 2016 Korean National Music Award. His works were performed by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, by the Friction Quartet(San Francisco), by the Tongyeong International Music Festival(TIMF) Ensemble, by the Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival(DCMF) Ensemble, by the Voce Quartet(Paris), by the Schallfeld Ensemble(Austria) and by the Ensemble Mise-en (New York). Sunghyun Lee participated in masterclasses with South-Korean composer Unsuk Chin during 2009 and 2017.

 

He benefited from her teaching during the Tongyeong International Music Festival(TIMF) Academy in 2011. He also participated in masterclasses with Ivan Fedele, Peter Eötvös, Mark-Anthony Turnage at the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra’s Program. In 2015, He won 3 prizes from Concours de Genève – as the youngest finalist – Audience Prize, Young Audience Prize and Students Prize. Also, his works have been featured during 2016 ISCM World Music Days (Tongyeong), 2016 PAMS (Pacific Alliance of Music Schools) New Music Festival (Singapore), 2016 PAN Music Festival (Seoul), 2016 Seoul Music Festival, 2017 Daegu Contemporary Music Festival(Daegu), 2018 Mise-en Music Festival(New York), etc.
